Making a difference
Purpose is something we actively live out, not just something we contemplate.
Dr. Paul T.P. Wong states that a meaningful life involves discovering and developing our unique gifts to serve the greater good, noting that "human beings are born to belong to loving relationships, develop their potentials, and serve the greater good."
Giving, serving and contributing to society is essential to positive mental health.
As the owner of Floodgate Coaching and Counselling, I am honoured to support—and be part of—a dedicated team of Christians from Temiskaming Shores who will be serving during a short term missions trip to Malawi in April 2027.
Short-term missions make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve, but they also transform those who go. Broadening worldviews, developing leadership through service, and deepening compassion for those facing poverty and hardship. Mission teams also bring encouragement, practical skills, and a willingness to serve alongside local leaders. Together, we strengthen relationships, support ongoing ministry, and remind our partners they are not alone in their work. This fundraiser will help remove financial barriers so our team can focus on what matters most: serving others, building relationships, and sharing hope.

I’m Josh and I am committed to following Christ and feel called to serve wherever He leads. I also feel called to pursue pastoral ministry, and I see this mission trip as an opportunity for God to stretch, shape, and prepare me for the man and pastor He wants me to become. I want to be used by God, even when it means stepping into uncomfortable situations, trusting that He will lead and equip me every step of the way.
I want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others in any way I can. When I first heard about the mission trip to Malawi, I felt a strong sense that God was calling me to go. It was as though He was saying, "If you truly want to serve, this is the path I have for you." I am excited to see how God will work through this journey—both in the lives of the people we serve and in my own life as I continue to grow in faith, leadership, and my calling to pastoral ministry.

Hi, my name is Melanie. I would like to tell you why I am going on this mission trip. I’m going because this is something that God has put in my heart since high school. This is my opportunity to go, but funding is a little bit tight and I really need help from you guys to support me to be able to go, and help these children and make a change in someone’s life that’s less fortunate. This is my very first mission trip. I’m very excited.
Becky Hills
As a mom of two young adult children, this trip is especially meaningful to me. Not only will it be my first overseas mission trip, but my 18-year-old son will also be serving alongside me as part of the team, as he prepares to enter full-time ministry. I believe mission trips are not only about the people we serve, but also about the growth of those who go—cultivating love, compassion, empathy, and leadership. When we step outside our comfort zones, we become more dependent on God to guide our path. I can't wait to see what God does through this journey!
